Here's recent correspondence from Fiji:
Ladies,
Well, now that the weather has settled (fingers crossed it stays this way) as we get much closer to the Christmas break.
Many of us have been affected by Cyclone Mick in some way or other, in that our homes have been without water and electricity; so now that it has come back on in most areas, we will be busy cleaning up.
We were joined by the XSJSS (Alumini) Sydney girls, i.e. Millie Chan (Lum On) and Nancy Joe at the Chung’s residence, before making our way up to the Waimanu convent, where Sr Ana, Sr Katarina and Maria were waiting. We received from the XSJSS Sydney (Alumni) $ 500.00 contribution, of which $200 was given towards the Sisters’ Christmas gift and $300 for banking for emergency funds.
We presented $1,000 to Sr Ana Rarasea for the 4 convents, i.e. Waimanu Rd, Novitiate, Hercules St and Vanuakula from the Fiji, Sydney and XSJSS (Alumni) Sydney past pupils. The Sisters thanked all the past pupils for their generous contribution.
Sr Allison was taken to Auckland for medical purposes and according to Sr Ana; she is now at the Meadowbank convent and has been told to get a lot of rest while she recovers. So let’s keep Sr Allison in our prayers.
We spent a good part of the afternoon at the convent and were treated to afternoon tea, delicious sausage rolls, fruit cake and for starters we all enjoyed Sr Ana’s soursop dessert, ideal for the hot weather we are experiencing. Recipes were exchanged and it was indeed a wonderful afternoon spent with the Sisters who taught us and influenced our lives in so many ways.
We finally left the convent at 6.45pm, dropping Mrs Anne Foster home, whilst Veitinia, Millie and Nancy joined their husbands for the Fiji brew at Chang’s residence, vaya!!!!!
