Dear Sydney Alumnae,

It is with a sense of immense gratitude, that the XSJSS Sydney Committee thank Emily Koroi for being its Chairperson, leading the Group for the past 14 years.

Under her stewardship, Emily made sacrifices of family and career time, continuously  displayed her passion, supported the numerous missions identified by the Group, and at all times called on her strong faith to provide us with the right direction and fellowship.

The memorable 2018 SJSS Alumnae Reunion in Sydney truly endorsed Emily’s  leadership and commitment to the Alumnae and, reinforced the “Many Paths One Spirit” motto.

We wish Emily and her family the very best and we are thankful that she remains as an integral committee member.

13/4/19 xSJSS meeting

Saturday 13/4/19 - our xSJSS-Sydney Committee held our first ever General Meeting in Five Dock. And although, our Committee has been operational for the past 14 years, we have kept our group small and informal.

In saying that, we’ve always been open to including all the SJSS Waimanu Rd Alumnae. And all contributions and donations are made on behalf of our Sydney Alumnae. The initial formation of this Committee was to raise funds to contribute to our Alma Mater at the 2006 reunion held in Suva. The ‘where-to-from-here’ meeting held on the return from Fiji in 2006 mapped out our support and ongoing assistance to projects supported and recommended by our Sisters of Cluny.

Vanuakula Catholic Mission was our main project. Our Committee contributed towards the commencement of the kindergarten at Vanuakula- contributing funds to train assistants to the teacher, as well as purchasing stationery and teaching aids. This soon spread to the rest of the school with guidance from our Cluny Sisters as to the required support whether it be new uniforms for students, books for the library, sports equipment. Beddings, school bags and so many other requirements were also purchased and donated when the boys’ dormitory burnt down a few years ago.

We were fortunate to be in a position to help. Apart from Vanuakula, we have supported and contributed to other Catholic schools as well as government- funded schools in Fiji. And for many years, a monetary contribution towards the upkeep and welfare of our Cluny Sisters was always sent to Sr. Genevieve. May she rest in eternal peace.

Our Committee made the decision to operate in a semi- formal mode this year, following the successful ‘Many Paths, One Spirit ‘ reunion we hosted here in Sydney in September last year ( 16-23 Sept). Hence our General Meeting held last week.

I take this opportunity to thank our wonderful committee of SuperWomen who have served with me over the past few years, particularly the last 2 years when planning and staging the “Many Paths, One Spirit” Reunion. Vinaka vakalevu.

There’s exciting events and activities planned for this year for little projects chosen by the Committee, so watch this space.

May I introduce our new Chairperson and whiz- bang Committee for 2019 - 2021:
Roslyn Lee - Chairperson.
Karen Macalister-Hohnen - Secretary.
Grace Yee - Assistant Secretary.
Pamela Devlin - Treasurer.
